“Hemapanjaram” is one of the major works in Malayalam literature published in 1925, was written by Kadathanat Madhavi Amma (15 June 1909 – 24 December 1999) who was an Indian poet, novelist and short story writer of Malayalam Literature. She is known for her poetry anthologies such as “Kalyopharam” and “Kanikkonna.” She was also the author two works based on ‘Vadakkan Pattukal.’ She was the recipient of the Kerala Sahitya Akademi award for overall contributions in 1996. Her life has been documented in a biography, written by Kadathanattu Narayanan and was published by Kerala Sahitya Akademi under the title “Madhavi Amma: Kavithayude Graamasree. The novel “Hemapanjaram” is a translation of Seetha Chatterjee’s “A Cage of Gold” which was published in 1923. The author begins the novel subtly and progresses slowly. The very first chapter itself describes a rural setting, the innocence explicitly visible through the lines.
1925-ൽ പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ച മലയാള സാഹിത്യത്തിലെ പ്രധാന കൃതികളിൽ ഒന്നാണ് "ഹേമപഞ്ജരം", മലയാള സാഹിത്യത്തിലെ ഒരു ഇന്ത്യൻ കവിയും നോവലിസ്റ്റും ചെറുകഥാകൃത്തുമായ കടത്തനാട്ട് മാധവി അമ്മ (15 ജൂൺ 1909 - 24 ഡിസംബർ 1999) എഴുതിയതാണ്. "കളിയോപരം", "കണിക്കൊന്ന" തുടങ്ങിയ കവിതാ സമാഹാരങ്ങൾക്ക് അവർ പ്രശസ്തയാണ്. 'വടക്കൻ പാട്ടുകൾ' അടിസ്ഥാനമാക്കിയുള്ള രണ്ട് കൃതികളുടെ രചയിതാവ് കൂടിയായിരുന്നു അവർ. 1996-ലെ സമഗ്രസംഭാവനകൾക്കുള്ള കേരള സാഹിത്യ അക്കാദമി അവാർഡ് അവർക്ക് ലഭിച്ചു. കടത്തനാട്ട് നാരായണൻ എഴുതിയ ജീവചരിത്രത്തിൽ അവരുടെ ജീവിതം രേഖപ്പെടുത്തി, കേരള സാഹിത്യ അക്കാദമി പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ചു. "മാധവി അമ്മ: കവിതയുടെ ഗ്രാമശ്രീ" എന്ന തലക്കെട്ടിൽ. "ഹേമപഞ്ജരം" എന്ന നോവൽ 1923-ൽ പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ച സീത ചാറ്റർജിയുടെ "എ കെജ് ഓഫ് ഗോൾഡ്" ന്റെ വിവർത്തനമാണ്. രചയിതാവ് നോവൽ സൂക്ഷ്മമായി ആരംഭിച്ച് പതുക്കെ പുരോഗമിക്കുന്നു. ആദ്യ അധ്യായം തന്നെ ഒരു ഗ്രാമീണ പശ്ചാത്തലത്തെ വിവരിക്കുന്നു, നിരപരാധിത്വം വ്യക്തമായി കാണാം.
