Guruvayur Satyagraha occurred in (1931–32) and was a Satyagraha (nonviolent protest) in present-day Thrissur district, which was then part of Ponnani Taluk of Malabar district, now part of Kerala, to enable untouchables admission into the Guruvayur Temple. It was led by K. Kelappan, who went on a 12-day hunger strike until it was called off by Mahatma Gandhi and the Indian National Congress. Guruvayur Satyagraha is a key milestone in Kerala's social history. The famous Sree Krishna temple of Guruvayur, located outside Travancore in the Malabar District of the old Madras province, where history rewrote itself, offers a fascinating look into the state's anti-untouchability crusade.
