A house where plants are grown to get protection from cold weather is a green house. Similarly, the atmosphere of earth can be compared to a green house, when sun's energy reaches the earth, some gets reflected back to space, some gets absorbed and re-radiated by gases like CO2, methane, nitrous oxide etc. Absorbed energy warms the atmosphere. Moreover, human activities like burning of fossil fuels, deforestation and land clearing are increasing the atmospheric gases enhancing green house effect. This trapping of gases liberate extra heat causing the temperature of earth to rise. Global warming is the after effect of all temperature rise. Causes are hotter heat waves, frequent droughts, powerful hurricanes and heavy rainfall. Also glaciers are disappearing, sea levels are rising and increased floods.
