Good Friday is a day set aside for Christians to remember and mourn the death of Jesus. According to the biblical account, it was on this day that church leaders prosecuted Jesus for stating to be the son of God and King of the Jews. For his teachings, the leaders convicted Jesus to crucifixion, the most severe form of criminal punishment at the time. After that, Jesus was beaten, forced to carry a heavy wooden cross through jeering crowds, and finally nailed to the cross by his wrists and feet, where he died.
