Golgi Body

Presentations | English

Do you know who helps process and package proteins and lipid molecules, especially proteins destined to be exported from the cell? It is the Golgi bodies or the Golgi apparatus. It is a cellular organelle that helps with the process, especially of proteins that are intended to be exported from the cell. Named after its discoverer, Camillo Golgi, the Golgi body appears as a series of stacked membranes. The Golgi body is a part of the cell made up of membranes and there are different types of membranes. Some of them are tubules and some of them are vesicles. The Golgi is close to the core. It is called the perinuclear body, and it is also located near the endoplasmic reticulum. And when the proteins emerge from the endoplasmic reticulum, they go to the Golgi for further processing. For example, carbohydrates are added to some of the proteins, and then these glycoproteins, meaning that they contain both carbohydrates and proteins, migrate from the Golgi to the rest of the cell.
