The Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti (GSDS) was founded as an autonomous organisation in September 1984 by the amalgamation of Gandhi Darshan at Rajghat and Gandhi Smriti at 5 Tees January Marg. It operates with the Ministry of Culture, Government of India's constructive advise and financial support. The Prime Minister of India serves as its chairperson, and it is guided in its work by a nominated body of prominent Gandhians and officials from other government agencies. The Samiti's primary goal and purpose are to spread Mahatma Gandhi's life, mission, and thinking through various socio-educational and cultural programmes.
