Fracture Mechanics

Presentations | English

Fracture mechanics is the field of mechanics concerned with the study of the propagation of cracks in materials. It is the mechanical analysis of materials containing one or more cracks to predict the conditions when failure is likely to occur. It uses methods of analytical solid mechanics to calculate the driving force on a crack and those of experimental solid mechanics to characterize the material's resistance to fracture. It is used to characterise the loads on a crack, typically using a single parameter to describe the complete loading state at the crack tip. A number of different parameters have been developed. In other words, it is a methodology that is used to predict and diagnose failure of a part with an existing crack or flaw. The presentation gives in-depth knowledge on Fracture mechanics.
