Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have been ruled by many dynasties over the millennia. Naturally, the various rulers have built many a fort for themselves. Many of these forts can be found even today, mostly in ruins. This multi-part series brings to you interesting information on these forts, including the names of the rulers who built them, their unique architecture, the wars fought there, and so on. Covered in this part is the Pratapagiri Kota, located in the Jayashankar Bhupalapalli District of Telangana. The art was constructed almost 1000 years ago by a king named Mucchanayuni. A forts build in a forest is called ‘Vana Durga’, and one built on a waterfront is called ‘Jala Durga’. Pratapa Giri is a Vana Durga. It is situated in the midst of the thick Mahadevpur Forests on the Deccan Plateau. On the fort’s walls can be seen some ancient inscriptions in Telugu.
