Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have been ruled by many dynasties over the millennia. Naturally, the various rulers have built many a fort for themselves. Many of these forts can be found even today, mostly in ruins. This multi-part series brings to you interesting information on these forts, including the names of the rulers who built them, their unique architecture, the wars fought there, and so on. Covered in this part is the Koilakonda Fort, located in the Mamabubnagar District of Telangana. The fort is also known as Keelagutta. It is said that the fort was built in the 14 AD by Aliyaramarayulu, the son-in-law of Sri Krishnadevaraya of the Vijayanagara Empire.
