Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have been ruled by many dynasties over the millennia. Naturally, the various rulers have built many forts for themselves. Most of these forts can be found even today, mostly in ruins. This multi-part series brings to you interesting information of these forts, including the names of the rulers who built them, their unique architecture, the wars fought there, and so on. Covered in this part is the Vizianagaram Fort. The fort was built in 1713 by Maharaja Vijaya Rama Raju of Vizianagaram. Prior to the construction of this fort, the dynasty had lived in a fort built of mud at a place called Kumili. The square shaped fort has two main entrances. Inside the fort are many temples, palaces and a clock tower built as a symbol of victory. Know more about the history and the architectural style of the fort in this presentation.
