Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have been ruled by many dynasties over the millennia. Naturally, the various rulers have built many a fort for themselves. Many of these forts can be found even today, mostly in ruins. This multi-part series brings to you interesting information on these forts, including the names of the rulers who built them, their unique architecture, the wars fought there, and so on. Covered in this part is the Guthi Kota, located in the Ananthapuram District of Andhra Pradesh. It is believed that the fort was built during the reign of the Chalukyas. It was, however, the Vijayanagara rulers that strengthened it further. In time, the fort was occupied by the Qutub Shahis, the Marathas and eventually the British.
