Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have been ruled by many dynasties over the millennia. Naturally, the various rulers have built many a fort for themselves. Many of these forts can be found even today, mostly in ruins. This multi-part series brings to you interesting information of these forts, including the names of the rulers who built them, their unique architecture, the wars fought there, and so on. Covered in this part is the famous Chandragiri Fort situated near the town of Tirupathi. The fort gets its name from the crescent-shaped hill near which it is built. The fort was built by the Yadavas in the 11th century AD, and yet it was occupied mostly by the Vijayanagara emperors.
