The foreign object debris is any object that causes damage to an equipment, as a result of presence of the same entity in that particular location. FOD can be some hardware, catering supply, building materials such as rock, sand or even birds. This is found mainly in cargo aprons, runways and gates. The effects are causing injury to people after propelled by jet blast, damage to the airline engine, cutting the tires of the airline and being attached to other aircraft parts not allowing to operate. The responsibility of prevention and removal of the debris lies in the hands of all the airport faculties. The three areas require attention are Runway, Taxiway and Maintenance. Constant inspection systems are maintained with the help of radar and electro-optical sensors help in 24/7 surveillance. Consistent monitoring during night time and low visibility situation.
