What is fluid in physics? A fluid is a state of matter that yields to sideways or shearing forces. Liquids and gases are both fluids. Fluid statics is the physics of stationary fluids. Fluid helps control body temperature. Fluid helps your body to digest (break down) food. Fluid helps to prevent constipation by keeping stools soft and regular. Fluid is an important part of blood, and helps to carry nutrients around the body. It’s important for your body to have plenty of fluids each day. Water helps you digest your food, absorb nutrients from food, and then get rid of the unused waste. Water is found in foods—both solids and liquids, as well as in its natural state. With age, you might lose some of your sense of thirst. However, in the world of physics, the term fluid has an entirely different meaning. It denotes any liquid or gas that has the ability to adjust or conform to the shape of the container in which is it being held. Fluid mechanics refers to the study of fluids in motion and at rest.
