Fibre Optics

Presentations | English

"Technology used for transmission of information as light pulses via fibre over long distance. Optical fibres have only thickness of that of a human hair strand. They are made as bundle for transmission of data to long distance as well as faster than any other medium. Commonly used in telecommunication services like Internet, telephones and television. This ideology transmit data in the form of photons (light particles). The light signals reflect the core and cladding with a series of zig zag bouncing causing total internal reflection. Speed of these signals is 30 percent less than the actual speed of light due to denser glass layers. To boost the signal throughout its journey of transmission, there is need of repeaters at regular intervals. Two types are multimode and single-mode fibre optic cables. Advantages include high bandwidth capacity, frequent maintenance and replacing is not needed, can be submerged in water and are not susceptible to interference. More information about the topic can be obtained from the presentation slides."
