Farmers Bill 2020 - Pros, Cons and Challenges

Presentations | English

What do you know about Farmers bill 2020? Let me brief it up for you, The Indian Agriculture Acts of 2020, often referred to as the Farm Bills, are three Acts initiated by the Parliament of India in September 2020.This Bill allows the farmers to sell their raw products outside the Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) regulated markets. The APMCs are government-controlled marketing yards or mandis. The bill clearly prohibits sale, lease or mortgage of Farmer’s land. Agreement will be for crops not for land. The recent laws enacted at the Centre will dismantle the minimum support price (MSP) system. The bills ensure that the farmer gets the stipulated price for crops, so that farming survives. Over time big corporate houses will dictate terms and farmers will end up getting less for their crops, and that's why they are concerned about their future and constantly protested against it. Farmers fear that with the virtual disbanding of the mandi system, they will not get an assured price for their crops. The new bills are placing farmers and traders at the mercy of civil servants, rather than of the courts.
