An executive secretary is responsible for organizing all activities of a top executive. They are responsible for ensuring that the executive is able to make all meeting and events. An executive secretary should have three years of experience in a similar role as well as a degree business administration. Some differences between a secretary and an executive secretary are matters of degree. A secretary may be responsible for bookkeeping and petty cash, while an executive secretary manages a budget. An executive secretary may supervise clerical staff, whereas a secretary does not have supervision responsibilities. The secretary’s role in any formal group is to be guardian of the process of meetings. They are usually the person who makes the arrangements for the meetings and keeps formal records of the group’s process and decisions: the minutes of the meeting. This may include keeping records of correspondence.
