How about we take a look at the characteristic features of Enzymes? Well, Enzymes are proteins that help to speed up metabolism, they act as biological catalysts (biocatalysts). Catalysts accelerate chemical reactions. All living things have enzymes. Our bodies naturally produce enzymes. Enzymes increase the reaction rate by lowering their activation energy. Some enzymes can make their conversion of substrate to product occur many millions of times faster. Enzymes are essential for digestion, liver function, and much more. Too much or too little of a certain enzyme can cause health problems. Enzymes in our blood can also help healthcare providers check for injuries and diseases. The major enzymes are Amylase, produced in the mouth, Pepsin, produced in the stomach, Trypsin, produced in the pancreas, Pancreatic lipase, produced in the pancreas, and Deoxyribonuclease and ribonuclease, produced in the pancreas. Like all proteins, enzymes are made of strings of amino acids chemically bonded to one another. These bonds give each enzyme a unique structure, which determines its function.
