This presentation narrates a story called ‘His First flight’ by Liam O'Flaherty with realistic pictures. This presentation is bi-lingual, presents the story both in Tamil and English to aid in comprehension. The theme of the story is overcoming fear to succeed. The conflict in this story is internal. The author beautifully narrates the internal fear and how it restricts the young seagull from flying. It starts with a lonely young seagull who is left alone in the ledge as he does not muster up the courage to fly along with his siblings. The story goes on to explain the desperate state in which young seagull lands in, without a single scrap of food. Adding to that, the sight of his mother tearing her food in the opposite side is aggravating his hunger. He lets out a low cackle asking for food but his mother refuses to budge. The young seagull continues his plaintive call and finally he sees his mother bringing him a piece of fish. Overjoyed seagull taps his feet on the rock and waits for his mother to come closer but his mother halts right opposite him. Maddened by hunger, he dives at the fish but he falls downwards. The very moment he is gripped by a monstrous fear, but, the next moment he feels his wings spread outwards. He feels wind rushing against his wings and the wings cutting through the air. He is now soaring gradually. He learns the art of flight and his family takes part in his most joyous moment. After which, the family lands on the sea and calls him to join. He goes near the sea and lands his feet on the surface; it sinks into the green sea. When his belly touches the surface, he stops sinking and starts floating on the sea.
