Encouraging Kids to be Active

Presentations | English

A modern parenting difficulty playing out in homes across the country is how to motivate children to be more physically active without making it another task or risking injury. One of the best ways to get kids moving is by including physical activity into their daily routine. It is important to keep on encouraging kids to be active. Children who regularly see their parents enjoying sports and physical activity are more likely to do so themselves. If they are not sports minded, maybe they will enjoy dance, cheerleading or yoga. Doing something they love with like-minded kids will help your child stay engaged and want to sustain their activity level. They will also love the social aspects of the team experience as well. The Department of Health and Human Services recommends that children ages 3 to 5 be physically active throughout the day to enhance their growth and development. Participation in all types of physical activity drops dramatically as a child’s age and grade in school increase. It’s important that physical activity be a regular part of family life. Adults who care for children can encourage them to participate in active play that includes many activities.
