Presentations | English

The expansion of ELISA is Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay, which is a commonly used laboratory test to detect antibodies present in the blood. Antibody is nothing but protein produced by immune system of the body to detect harmful substances that is antigens. It was first explained by Engvall and Perlmann in 1971, which works on the principle that specific antibodies bind with target antigens by helping to estimate antigen-antibody concentration. It is mainly used to determine certain conditions like Ebola, Aids, Rotavirus, Lyme Disease, Toxoplasmosis, Carcinoma of epithelial cells and so on. The results of this test provides accurate diagnosis of a particular disorder and is a rapid test which yields results quickly. ELISA is easier to perform and is highly responsive since direct as well as indirect analysis methods can be carried out. Its used in food industry to determine food allergens.
