Electronic Waste

Presentations | English

Abandoned electrical / electronic equipment and parts of equipment is referred to as e-waste or Electronic Waste. These include many useless items, including computers, televisions, refrigerators, and mobile phones. When old electronic devices are discarded, they lie in the soil, exposed to the sun and rain, and the toxic substances such as tin, carbon, juice, and cadmium that come out of them contaminate the topsoil. Two kilograms of carbon dioxide, a dangerous toxin, enter the soil from a television. The average lifespan of television is only ten years and a computer is only six years, which has led to an increase in e-waste. When these are added and burned, the smoke released into the atmosphere is six times more dangerous than the usual polluted smoke. Scientists at the University of Warwick have developed an environmentally friendly polymer that can be used to make the exterior and frame of a computer using soil-soluble resins. It is hoped that this will be a solution if it can be used effectively.
