Echinococcus Granulosus

Presentations | English

Echinococcus Granulosus is a parasite (dog tape worm) also termed as hydatid worm. It is commonly found in sheep grazing areas. Its life cycle includes two hosts: definitive hosts, they are mainly dogs and intermediate hosts are livestock such as sheep, horse etc and man as well. The adult worms live in the definitive host's intestine. Eggs are released with fecal matter from definitive host(dog) to surroundings which enter the human body. Once the eggs reach the human body, the eggs hatch releasing tapeworm larvae or oncospheres which penetrate through the intestine and reaches the bloodstream to different organs causing cystic echinococcus or hydatid disease. The result is slowly growing cysts in lungs, liver and other organs. This may grow and remain without being noticed for years or in some it can have some symptoms, mainly affects the liver causing abdominal pain and nausea. Let's have an analysis about the life cycle of echinococcus granulosus. Please have a look into the PowerPoint presentation.
