Weak unions collective bargaining process mainly depends on the strength of unions. Indian unions are marked with multiplicity, inter and intra-union rivalry, weak financial position and non-recognition. Weak trade unions cannot initiate strong arguments during negotiations. Sometimes, negotiations can be extended for an excessive period of time. The new productive context includes the emergence of new forms of business organisation and new relationships between companies; for example, in terms of networking and outsourcing. Work is often affected by different companies jointly or interdependently. Negotiations appear to be highly fragmented, with a multiplicity of bargaining units. This makes it difficult to conclude agreements at different levels. The main problem in this case is usually the absence of bargaining at sectorial and state level. Expanding product markets lead to collective bargaining as labour organises to take wages out of competition, i.e. wages not control is the goal.
