Dead Branches of Evolution

Presentations | English

The dead end of evolution simply means extinction. Extinction is the process of evolution that leads to the disappearance of a population or species. Over 99% of all the species that once lived on the Earth amounting to over five billion species are estimated to be extinct. As per the estimations on the number of current species, a range from 10 -14 million, of which more than 1.2 million have been studied and more than 86% have not yet been discovered. So, what will be the causes of a dead end in evolution? Some of the causes are asteroid strike, climate change, lack of genetic diversity, hunting, better adaptation competition etc. Some of the extinct animals are Passenger Pigeon, Dodo, Tasmanian Tiger. We can also see with the extinction of certain animals or birds, the plants that they have been consuming also got extinct and it happens vice-versa also. For example, the huge megafauna fruits in Australia specifically eaten by megafauna large wombat got extinct with the extinction of that species.
