DBMS? What does it stand for? A Database Management System (DBMS) is a tool to store, edit and organize data in a database. It provides several key features: stores data in one central location, allows data to be shared by many users, and provides user interfaces to work with the data. DBMS are software systems used to store, retrieve, and run queries on data. A DBMS serves as an interface between an end-user and a database, allowing users to create, read, update, and delete data in the database. Without a database management system, running and managing data effectively is not possible. Serving as the intermediary between the user and the database, a DBMS provides users access to files stored in a database. Major elements of DBMS security include user authentication, user authorization, encryption of data and/or user-id and password, and auditing user actions. It functions by restricting unauthorized access and use by implementing strong and multifactor access and data management controls. Data encryption also provides an additional layer of security to protect the integrity and confidentiality of data.
