Criterion Vs Criteria - Template 08

Images | English

Because English borrows words from Latin and Greek, we must occasionally adjust our grammar to reflect how those words were used in their original languages. This is especially true when it comes to plural nouns. Criteria is a plural noun that refers to standards against which a decision can be made. Its singular is criterion, but evidence suggests that, like data and agenda and their lesser-used singulars datum and agendum, criteria is frequently used as a singular as well as a plural.
