A satellite allows transmission of radio, tv and telephone sent live to any part of the world. Before their invention, communication was difficult mainly in case of long distances. The communication satellites are in the geostationary orbit, it orbits the earth taking the same time as earth takes for one revolution. At present, there are almost 2300 satellites in the earth's orbit. It is made with a transponder, which is a device that helps in sending and receiving data from earth. Fixed Service Satellite (FSS), Broadcast Service Satellite (BSS) and Mobile Service Satellite (MSS) are the three modes by which the communication is made possible. The applications include: national and international network, broadband data services, land mobile connection, internet use etc. Advantages are broadcast possibilities, easy installation, better quality of transmitted signal and so on.
