In physics, what do you understand by collision? A collision is short duration interaction between two bodies or more than two bodies simultaneously causing a change in motion of bodies involved due to internal forces acted between them during this. Collisions involve forces (there is a change in velocity). Apart from the properties of the materials of the two objects, two factors affect the result of impact: the force and the time during which the objects are in contact. A collision is an event where momentum or kinetic energy is transferred from one object to another. Collision occurs when two objects collide, and kinetic energy isn't lost. The objects rebound from each other, and kinetic energy and momentum are conserved. Inelastic collisions are said to occur when the two objects remain together after the collision, so we are dealing with an elastic collision. In Inelastic collisions: momentum is conserved, Elastic collisions: momentum and kinetic energy are conserved.
