Bhajans are part of Hinduism's rich musical tradition. Hindus believe that music is essential to the worship experience because it awakens the senses and creates spiritual vibrations that increase devotion. Repetition and chanting help devotees connect with humanity and their spirituality. There are both ancient traditions and contemporary songs in Hindu music. Much of the framework is provided by two major classical music forms: Hindustani from northern India and Carnatic from the south. String instruments, such as the sitar, are popular in Hindustani music, where flexibility and improvisation shape songs. This is one such Hindu Devotional song.
