The 2nd chapter of the Bhagavad Gita is titled as the “Sankhya Yoga” or the chapter of numinous knowledge. It is considered the most important chapter in all of Bhagavad Gita. The importance stems from the fact that it is in this chapter that Lord Krishna curtails all of His teachings and wisdom presented in the whole of Gita. The second chapter can therefore be broken down and classified into 4 major classes: I – Arjuna surrenders himself to Lord Krishna and accepts his position as Lord Krishna’s disciple and Him, Arjuna’s Guru. Arjuna humbly requests Lord Krishna to give him guidance on how to dispose of his sorrow. II – Lord Krishna explains the cause of grief as ignorance of the true Self. III – Here, the ideology of Karma Yoga is introduced which is a selfless action, without zero expectations of any kind. IV – Lord Krishna presents a description of what makes a Perfect Man and advises that a it is the one with a steady mind. This chapter holds the essence of Bhagavad Gita.
