cDNA Library

Presentations | English

cDNA library is the combination of cloned complimentary DNA fragments inserted into a collection of host cells, which constitute some portion of the transcriptome of the organism and are stored as a ‘library’. cDNA libraries are extensively used for determining the expressed portion of protein-coding genes in eukaryotes. mRNA is extracted and purified in order to construct a cDNA library. Hence the collected mRNAs are used as a template for the synthesis of cDNA by the process of reverse transcription. And the cDNA contains only the expressed genes of an organism, because it is directly derived from the fully transcribed mRNA found in the nucleus. cDNA libraries are very useful when it comes to reproducing eukaryotic genomes. They are also used to express eukaryotic genes in prokaryotes. Reverse genetics is another important area where cDNA libraries can be utilized. Such libraries are also used in Functional cloning to identify genes based on the encoded protein function. Please check the below presentation for detailed description.
