"The Selfish Giant", a short story written by Oscar Wilde, is a chapter from grade 8 NCERT English supplementary reader, It So Happened. The story is about a garden that refuses to be happy and welcome spring into it as the giant who owns the garden doesn't want to share it with the children of the village. The moment when the giant realises that happiness lies in sharing, and welcomes the children into his garden leads to a happy ending. The story also provides us with the invaluable lesson that kindness and love lead to happiness not only in life on earth but also in death and beyond. Go through the PPT to gain a detailed understanding of the story, the morals taught to us through it, the meanings of some new words and phrases encountered in it, as well as some higher order thinking skills that help us look for a deeper meaning and think beyond the textbook lesson.
