Biomes and Ecozones

Presentations | English

Ecozones and ecoregions are characterised by their natural landforms, climate, species and ecological communities. Ecoregions are classified by biome type, which are the major global plant communities determined by rainfall and climate. The Planning Commission of India, divided the country into 15 broad agro-climatic zones based on physiography and climate. Biome types like Mediterranean forests, woodlands, scrubs, tundra and mangroves host very distinct ecological communities and are recognised as distinct biome types as well. A biome is a collection of different ecosystem that share similar climate conditions. The biosphere includes all the places on earth where life is found and includes all of the different biomes. A biome is a different form of an ecosystem in which a large land area with a distinct climate and plants and animal species exist. The ecosystem is an interaction of the living and non- living components in an environment. Download this PPT to broaden your knowledge of our ecosystem, biomes and ecozones.
