Which branch of Biological science deals with the immune system? Immunology is the study of the immune system and is a very important branch of the medical and biological sciences. The immune system protects us from infection through various lines of defense. If the immune system is not functioning as it should, it can result in diseases, such as autoimmunity, allergy, and cancer. Immunology includes all physical, chemical, and biological reactions of the organism against foreign substances. The immune system is divided into two types: Innate immunity and adaptive immunity, as well as active and passive. The main parts of the immune system are white blood cells, antibodies, complement system, lymphatic system, spleen, bone marrow, and thymus. The major function of the immune system is to protect the host from environmental agents such as microbes or chemicals, thereby preserving the integrity of the body. This is done by the recognition circadian response to non-self.
