R Balakrishna Pillai was one of the former politicians of Kerala State and he was the chairman of Kerala Congress. He served as the minister in sectors of electricity and transport. Vishwakeralam Daily published the biography of R Balakrishna Pillai titled Gaandheevam, written by Vrindhavanam Venugopalan. His autobiography is titled Prisoner 5990. R Balakrishna Pillai has also acted in some movies in Malayalam like Vedikettu, Ival Oru Naadodi and so on.
കേരളത്തിലെ മുൻ രാഷ്ട്രീയ നേതാക്കളിൽ ഒരാളായ ആർ ബാലകൃഷ്ണ പിള്ള കേരളാ കോൺഗ്രസ്സിന്റെ ചെയർമാനായിരുന്നു. വൈദ്യുതി, ഗതാഗതം തുടങ്ങിയ വകുപ്പുകളിൽ മന്ത്രിയായിരുന്നു. വൃന്ദാവനം വേണുഗോപാലൻ രചിച്ച ഗാന്ധീവം എന്ന പേരിൽ ആർ ബാലകൃഷ്ണ പിള്ളയുടെ ജീവചരിത്രം വിശ്വകേരളം ദിനപത്രം പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ചു. പ്രിസണർ 5990 എന്നാണ് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ആത്മകഥയുടെ പേര്. വെടിക്കെട്ട്, ഇവൾ ഒരു നാടോടി തുടങ്ങി മലയാളത്തിലെ ചില സിനിമകളിലും ആർ ബാലകൃഷ്ണ പിള്ള അഭിനയിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്.
