Awhile Vs A While - 06

Images | English

While is an adverb that means "for a while." The two-word expression a while is made up of the article a and the noun while, which means "a period of time" (as in "stay here for a while") or "the amount of time and effort expended" (as in "worth your while"). While most grammarians believe that awhile should only be used to modify a verb, a while should be used after prepositions or in phrases such as a while ago or a while back.
