How fantastic is it to be able to target specific listeners with sound while preventing other surrounding listeners from hearing it? Audio spot lighting is a relatively new technique that produces focused sound beams similar to those produced by a flashlight. It makes use of nonlinear acoustics as well as some advanced mathematics. It is, however, genuine, and it is perfectly acceptable to knock the socks off any traditional loud speaker. This acoustic device consists of a speaker that emits inaudible ultrasonic pulses with a very short wavelength that work similarly to a narrow column. Due to the non-linearity of air, the ultra sound beam functions as an airborne speaker, and as it goes through the air, gradual distortion occurs in a predictable manner. Ultrasonic energy is used in the Audio Spotlight & Hyper Sonic Sound Technology (created by American Technology Corporation) to create incredibly tiny sound beams that act like light beams. The non-linearity of air is exploited in audio highlighting. When inaudible ultrasound pulses are discharged into the air, the inaudible ultrasound spontaneously transforms to audible sound tones, proving that sound propagation in air is just as non-linear as sound propagation in water and can be computed mathematically.
