Our environment is getting polluted day by day due to increased human intervention. The branch of biotechnology that helps in protecting the environment and finding solutions for the problems such as pollution can be called environmental biotechnology. Applications of environmental biotechnology lies in making use of microorganisms for eliminating the harmful effects of human activities. It includes waste treatment, which can be done both aerobically and anaerobically by microorganisms leading to the production of methane, that can be used as a biogas fuel. Biodegradation is eliminating the oil spill, pesticides and such by microbial action. In pollution control, the strains of bacteria are isolated and used for eliminating various forms of chemical pollutants. Biomass energy production is another application which includes biogas formation, methane fermentation, methanogenesis etc. Now we can have a discussion of the topic with presentation slides.
