Presentations | English

Amino acid is a biological molecule present in all plants and animals, made up of amine and carboxylic acid. This molecule was discovered in the eighteenth century, since then studies have revealed its immense importance for plant and animal life. Although there are about 500 different forms of amino acids known to scientists, usually differentiated by their atomic structures, what is usually meant by ‘amino acid’ is alpha amino acid, which includes the 23 protein building amino acids that join to form peptide chains, the basic building blocks of proteins. In our bodies amino acid affects our brain function, tissue development and maintenance, immune system, energy levels and the development of enzymes and hormones among other important functions, doctors stress on the importance of having food containing essential amino acids, amino acid rich food items range from legumes, nuts, to a long list of fruits.
