Amazon's Reptiles, Amphibians and Birds

Presentations | English

The Amazon is home to more species of plants and animals than any other terrestrial ecosystem on the planet -- perhaps 30% of the world's species are found there. There are many different animal classes and every animal in the world belongs to one of them. The five most well-known classes of vertebrates (animals with backbones) are mammals, birds, fish, reptiles, amphibians. Frogs are overwhelmingly the most abundant amphibians in the rainforest. There are more than 450 species of lizards, snakes, turtles, tortoises, and caiman in the Amazon Basin. Reptiles are an important food source for people in the Amazon. More than 1500 bird species are found in the Amazon Basin, while South America as a whole is home to roughly one-third the world's birds. The presentation will provide further insight on the topic.
