In the movie Thanmaathra when Rameshan slowly succumbed to Alzheimer’s there was not even a single person in the audience who didn’t shed a tear. Alzheimer’s is very painful to watch. To watch your loved one lose themselves and all their fond memories, slowly giving into the disease. Medically, Alzheimer’s is a progressive neurological disorder where the brain cells eventually shrink and die. The early symptoms include difficulty in recalling recent incidents or conversations. As the the disease progresses, the person suffers severe memory loss that will eventually lead to difficulty in carrying out day to day activities. Painfully there’s no treatment to cure this condition. Medications can temporarily improve the symptoms and help the patient retain independence for a time.
