Alzheimer's Diseases

Presentations | English

Alzheimer's disease is the most common type of dementia. It is a progressive disease beginning with mild memory loss and possibly leading to loss of the ability to carry on a conversation and respond to the environment. The risk of developing Alzheimer's disease increases by many conditions that damage the blood vessels. It is a progressive neurologic disorder that causes the brain to shrink and brain cells to die. Age is the biggest risk factor for Alzheimer's. It mainly affects people over 65. In course of time the brain cell connections and the cells themselves degenerate and die which eventually results in memory loss and affects many mental functions. It affects parts of the brain that control thought, memory, and language. The most challenging part is there is no cure for this medical condition, but medication and management of strategies may temporarily improve symptoms. The commonly seen symptoms are memory loss, challenges in planning or solving problems, difficulty in completing routine tasks, lack of clarity with time and place, trouble understanding visual images and spatial relations and so on. The presentation gives better understanding on the topic.
