It is a memory loss disorder progressive in nature, that involves a part of brain which control thought, memory as well as language. The disorder is capable of seriously affecting a person's ability to perform daily actions. The best known risk factor of this disease is age, even family genetics plays a role. Having a healthy lifestyle can always reduce the chance of developing alzhimer's. Memory loss should be considered as the warning sign of this disease. Symptoms are memory loss that disrupts daily life, trouble in handling money, difficulty to complete a task, misplacing things, mood swings etc. PET scan can support as a diagnostic test and rule out the possible causes of symptoms occuring as a part. There is no cure but medications can improve the quality of life and decrease progress of the disease. Donepezil, rivastigmine and galantamine are medicines mainly used to treat mild to severe symptoms of alzhimer's. They can help reduce symptoms and also behavioural problems.
