Presentations | English

The Freedom Movement in India had multiple stages and facets to it. While the predominant emotion was non-violence, there were armed rebellions and inspiring revolutionaries too that contributed to the movement. Manyam Dora Alluri Sitarama Raju and Gondu Bebbuli Komaram Bheem are two such revolutionaries from the Telugu lands. While one was outrightly fighting the British and their atrocities on the tribal people of Andhra Pradesh, the other was fighting the general oppression of the tribal people by the land-owning gentry under the Nizam rule. These two figures, though popular in their own right in their own lands, have now been brought to the forefront by their representation in popular cinema by director SS Rajamouli of Bahubali fame. Though there is no evidence of them having ever met in real life, despite being contemporaries, the movie explores a fictional thread of their acquaintance & friendship. More on the real life of these exemplary revolutionaries who both attained martyrdom while fighting for what they believed in is given in this presentation. Read on...
