All Right vs Alright - Template 04

Images | English

The one-word spelling of the phrase all right, which first appeared in the 1880s, is alright. Alright is commonly used in written dialogue and informal writing, but in edited writing, only all right is acceptable. In general, using alright in standard English is not acceptable. The only distinction between alright and all right is that one is a recognised spelling and the other is not. Despite the fact that alright is becoming more popular in casual writing, in American English, all right is the only acceptable spelling of the phrase. In informal situations, British English accepts alright, but prefers all right in formal writing.
