“Akalukayo Thammilakalukayo…” is a heart – rending song written by Vayalar Ramavarma and brought to the audience by the talented singer K. J. Yesudas, for the 1967 Indian Malayalam - language movie “Kaavalam Chundan.” The film stars Sathyan, Sharada, Adoor Bhasi and P. J. Antony in the lead roles. The film’s musical score was done by G. Devarajan master. This particular song is an upsetting one as the song recalls or rather is questioning the relationship between two people. The lyrics seem to be posing a question – ‘whether we are growing close or falling apart?’ The lyrics seem to be melancholic conveying the distress of the character who is afraid of losing his loved one. Such a fear is common in everyone, the fear of losing a loved one; G. Devarajan master’s composition leaves us speechless in this case
1967-ൽ പുറത്തിറങ്ങിയ ഇന്ത്യൻ മലയാളം - ഭാഷാ ചിത്രമായ "കാവാലം ചുണ്ടൻ" എന്ന ചിത്രത്തിനായി വയലാർ രാമവർമ രചിച്ച് കെ.ജെ. യേശുദാസ് എന്ന പ്രതിഭാധനനായ ഗായകൻ പ്രേക്ഷകരിലേക്ക് കൊണ്ടുവന്ന ഹൃദയസ്പർശിയായ ഗാനമാണ് "അകലുക്കായോ തമ്മിലകളുകയോ...". സത്യൻ, ശാരദ, അടൂർ ഭാസി, പി.ജെ.ആന്റണി എന്നിവരാണ് ചിത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന കഥാപാത്രങ്ങളെ അവതരിപ്പിക്കുന്നത്. ജി ദേവരാജൻ മാസ്റ്ററാണ് ചിത്രത്തിന്റെ സംഗീതം നിർവ്വഹിച്ചത്. ഗാനം ഓർമ്മിപ്പിക്കുന്നതോ പകരം രണ്ട് വ്യക്തികൾ തമ്മിലുള്ള ബന്ധത്തെ ചോദ്യം ചെയ്യുന്നതോ ആയ ഈ പ്രത്യേക ഗാനം അസ്വസ്ഥമാക്കുന്ന ഒന്നാണ്. വരികൾ ഒരു ചോദ്യം ഉന്നയിക്കുന്നതായി തോന്നുന്നു - ‘നമ്മൾ അടുത്ത് വളരുകയാണോ അതോ അകന്നുപോകുകയാണോ?’ പ്രിയപ്പെട്ട ഒരാളെ നഷ്ടപ്പെടുമെന്ന് ഭയപ്പെടുന്ന കഥാപാത്രത്തിന്റെ വിഷമം പകരുന്ന വിഷാദമാണ് വരികൾ. അത്തരമൊരു ഭയം എല്ലാവരിലും സാധാരണമാണ്, പ്രിയപ്പെട്ട ഒരാളെ നഷ്ടപ്പെടുമോ എന്ന ഭയം; ജി.ദേവരാജൻ മാസ്റ്ററുടെ രചന ഈ സാഹചര്യത്തിൽ നമ്മെ നിശബ്ദരാക്കുന്നു
