Air India Express Flight 812 - Crash at Mangalore

Presentations | English

"Air India Express Flight 812 (IX 812) was a scheduled flight on 22 May 2010 from Dubai airport bound for Mangalore. The aircraft was on the return leg of its Mangalore – Dubai – Mangalore quick- turn-around flight, operated with the same set of crew. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800 with 160 passengers and 6 crew members, overran the runway at Mangalore on landing, fell into a gorge at the end of the runway and caught fire. Both pilots, all four flight attendants and 152 passengers lost their lives. Only 8 passengers survived, all except one suffered serious injuries. The investigation found that the pilot was high on the approach and despite three warnings from the co-pilot about the same and recommendation to “go around”, persisted in his attempt to land. The aircraft touched down 5200 feet into the 8000 feet runway, over ran it and crashed. Please go through the presentation for more details."
