An accounting assistant is an individual in an organisation who is responsible for supporting and working with the accounting department and their management, functions and procedures on a day-to-day basis. They are also required to carry out the basic financial functions and hence most of the base level accounting duties. One must be familiar with the process of accounting and the basics of the same.
