Malayalam folk songs are a collection of songs from the many dialects of Malayalam spread across different parts of Kerala. These folk songs recount the social and cultural events and incidents that happened in ordinary village life. These songs evolved overtime. The identities of these poets are not known and it sometimes could be a collective effort. Lullabies, farm songs, Onam songs, war songs are all now considered as folk songs. These songs have beautiful rhythms that can be sung carefree and are often very short, though there are some songs that give meticulous attention to many nuances and go on to be even an hour long. One such folk song gone like "Aatin naduvilarayalin kombathu anandathodirikum thattha. Thikkithrakki mathilakam thuthappol rajakumaride tholipoyi."
"മലയാളം നാടൻ പാട്ടുകൾ കേരളത്തിലെ ഓരോ പ്രദേശത്തും നിലനിന്നിരുന്ന ഭാഷയിൽ ഉണ്ടായിട്ടുള്ള പാട്ടുകളാണ് കേരളത്തിലെ നാടൻ പാട്ടുകൾ. ഇവ ഓരോ പ്രദേശത്തും നിലനിന്നിരുന്ന സാമൂഹ്യവ്യവസ്ഥയെയും സംസ്കാരത്തെയും പ്രതിനിധാനം ചെയ്യുന്നു. നാടൻപാട്ടുകൾ പല കാലങ്ങളിലായി പരിണാമം സംഭവിച്ച് വന്നവയാണ്. മിക്കവയ്ക്കും ഒരു രചയിതാവ് ഉണ്ടായിരിക്കണമെന്നില്ല. ഉറക്കുപാട്ടുകളും കൃഷിപ്പാട്ടുകളും മുതൽ ഓണപ്പാട്ടുകളും പടപ്പാട്ടുകളും വരെ മലയാളത്തിന്റെ നാടൻ പാട്ടുശേഖരങ്ങളിൽ പെടുന്നു. വളരെ അശ്രദ്ധമായി പാടിത്തകർക്കാവുന്ന ചെറുശീലുകൾ മുതൽ ശ്രദ്ധയോടെ കൃത്യമായി മണിക്കൂറുകൾ വരെ ദീർഘമായി പാടുന്ന പാട്ടുകൾ വരെ ഉണ്ട്. നാടൻ പാട്ടിന്റെ ഏതാനും വരികൾ :- ""ആറ്റിൻ നടുവിലരയാലിൻ കൊമ്പത്തു ആനന്ദത്തോടിരിക്കും തത്ത തിക്കിത്തിരക്കി മതിലകം തൂത്തപ്പോൾ രാജകുമാരീടെ താലിപോയി "" "
